Detroit Dad Due In Court In Bianca Jones Murder Case
DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit father faces a court hearing Tuesday in the death of his 2-year-old daughter.
D'Andre Lane is charged with murdering Bianca Jones. Tuesday's hearing will determine if there's enough evidence to continue to trial.
Lane told police he was carjacked in early while driving his daughter in Detroit. The car was recovered with a car seat inside — but there was no sign of Bianca. Manhunts across the city and pleas for her return failed to turn up the baby.
Lane has publicly stuck to his version of events and denied wrongdoing, although police expressed doubt just days after he reported Bianca missing.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says after an extensive investigation, the prosecutor's office has determined that there was never any carjacking. She said Lane's story is full of holes and is inconsistent with the facts of the case.
Lane's attorney Terry Johnson said his client had no role in the child's death and will fight the murder charge.
