Detroit Dad Arrested For Shooting Son
DETROIT (WWJ) - A 46-year-old Detroit man has been charged with assault with intent to murder, in the alleged shooting of his own son.
Roger Scott Sr. was arraigned on Dec. 25 on multiple charges related to the shooting. Bond was set at $75,000. He's due back in court on Jan. 8.
Police say the incident started around 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 22 when Scott and his 22-year-old son were having a verbal argument at a house in the 11400 block of Ashton. At some point during the argument, it's alleged that Scott produced a weapon and fired shots, striking his son in the body.
Police arrived on the scene and Scott was taken into custody, while his son was taken to a local hospital. He was last listed in critical condition.
Police say they recovered the weapon at the home.
"This is just another senseless case of violence," Interim Chief of Police Chester Logan said in a release. "Again, we are urging family members and friends who are having disagreements to find peaceful ways to handle their disputes."
In addition to the assault with intent to murder charge, Scott is also facing charges of assault with intent to commit great bodily harm, and felony firearm.
An investigation is ongoing.
