Detroit Cops' Bra Sizes Mistakenly Emailed To Officers
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The public expects some amount of transparency when it comes to law enforcement officials — but this may be too much information.
A female Detroit police officer's bra cup size is hidden beneath department-issued body armor, but apparently not on some email attachments.
Assistant Chief James White said a commander sent out emails last month announcing that their bullet-proof vests had arrived. The emails included a spreadsheet listing the height and weight of several female officers — along with their bra sizes.
The emails were seen by the officers' commanders and supervisors.
White, who called it "an embarrassing situation," blames it on a "clerical error." He said the commander initiating the emails didn't realize the officers' personal dimensions were on the spreadsheet.
"Basically, what should have been released was the fact that a person's vest was received," White told WWJ Newsradio 950. "No information other than that should have been released, or will be released in the future."
White said he and Police Chief James Craig planned to meet with the female officers impacted by this to apologize.
"You know, that's not a practice of the police department to release sensitive information such as that," said White. "Unfortunately, it was an error that we have to face head on and ensure that it doesn't happen again."
The department is investigating the incident.
