Detroit Cop, Several Others, Hurt In Crash
DETROIT (WWJ) - An off-duty or undercover police officer and as many as eight other people were injured in a crash Thursday on Detroit's west side.
One witness talking to WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis said the accident is connected to an earlier police chase.
The feeling vehiele, an SUV with four people inside, was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck another vehicle at the intersection of Plainview and Tireman, near Evergreen Road.
That's when, according to the witness, the SUV flipped over and struck two additional cars and two bystanders,
"They were standing at that white car's driver's side door, talking to the people in the car," said a family member of one of those injured. "They were standing outside in the street at the car door ... and that car came smashing into them."
Police at the scene would not confirm whether or not it was, in fact, a chase that led to the crash.
It was not immediately clear how serious the injuries were. No names or further information had been released as of 8 p.m. Thursday.
