Detroit Church Offers Free Meals, Grooming Services On Christmas Eve
DETROIT (WWJ) - The economy may be on the upswing but Detroit's Christ Temple Baptist Church is preparing to feed and provide presents for 1,500 people on Christmas Eve.
This year, 100 volunteers have pledged to serve by helping to feed and clothe Metro-Detroiters in need this holiday season. Church volunteers, Cass Technical High School students and MDOT employees will spend a big part of Christmas Eve helping those who need assistance this holiday season.
Pastor Devay Myatt said the reality of the economy is that people are struggling and they want to provide some support to those who are just going through.
Doors will open to those who need help from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The church will provide a festive feast with all the trimmings, free gifts, free haircuts and hair braiding services.
The menu includes turkey, ham, macaroni and cheese and homemade desserts. Myatt said all of the food has been made from scratch.
Ten licensed barbers and fifteen hair braiders will provide grooming services to adults and children on pre-washed hair. Gift bags filled with toiletries and a hat and glove sets will also be handed out. Those in need of clothing and shoes can choose from racks of slightly used items.
This the sixteenth year that Christ Temple Baptist Church has held this community event.
No reservation is needed. The church is located at 10628 Plymouth Road, one block east of Meyers. For more information, call the church office at 313-934-4340.
