Detroit Celebrates St. Patrick's Day
DETROIT (WWJ) - For many, it's a St. Patrick's Day tradition. Quite a few Metro Detroiters were caught camping out before dawn, Thursday, outside their favorite watering holes.
At The Old Shillelagh in Detroit, the green awning matched the attire of many in the crowd.
WWJ's Vickie Thomas (wearing her "Kiss Me, I'm Irish" button, by the way) spoke with Michigan-native Melissa Williams, who traveled all the way from Colorado just for the party.
In the wee hours of the morning, Williams was first in line. She said she and her husband arrived at 3:30 a.m.
"Because it's the only place to be on St. Patrick's Day! This is where everybody's at. This is it," Williams said.
What advice does she have for those who've never been there?
"You gotta at least try it once. The people here are great. The singing, the entertainment... even afterwords you can go in the tents, it's an all day thing. You can be Irish for a day. It's amazing," she said.
