Detroit Celebrates 'Beer Week'

Milwaukee is known as the "Beer City" of America, but that may not be the case this week. Detroit will be swimming in beer, with the 2nd Annual Detroit Beer Week underway in the Motor City.

The event is sponsored by the Michigan Brewers Guild, along with other organizations and breweries.

WWJ spoke with co-organizer Jason Peltier, who says Michigan is big into the brew, and has all kinds of beers on tap for the week's events.

"Key lime pie, strawberry shortcake beer ... and there's just things that [make you think] 'Really, that's a beer?' And it just tastes amazing," Peltier said.

Among the activities this week are beer tastings, brewery tours and even a beer-themed bike exursion.

The Michigan Brewers Guild's mission is to unify the Michigan brewing community; increase sales of Michigan-brewed beer through promotions, marketing, public awareness and consumer education; and to monitor and assure a healthy beer industry within the state.
