Warehouse Fire Sends Smoke Over I-75
DETROIT (WWJ) - A big fire burning Friday afternoon in southwest Detroit drew a lot of attention from motorists along I-75 near the Rouge River bridge.
The fire, at a vacant warehouse, had been contained by Detroit fire crews by around 2:30 p.m.
Witness Richard Yaken was traveling the freeway when he spotted the blaze just north of the Marathon plant.
"It's an old brick building underneath I-75 near the old NS bridge. It's up in flames big thing back there," Yaken told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeil. "The flames were going up really high; smoke was covering the freeway on the Rouge overpass."
Fire crews remained on the scene putting water on some hot spots after 3 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
