Detroit Boy Drowns At Indiana Summer Camp
FREMONT, Ind. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a young Detroit teenager has drowned at a northeastern Indiana summer camp.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources said staff at the Howe School Summer Camp, about 40 miles north of Fort Wayne, noticed the 15-year-old was missing about 6 p.m. Monday.
Staff searched the area while a lifeguard checked the camp's swimming area in Cedar Lake, where the boy's body was found in about eight feet of water.
The teenager was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name wasn't immediately released.
Investigators say the boy was taking part in a "free swimming" activity when he drowned, WSBT-TV reported. The incident is under investigation.
According to its website, Howe School Summer Camp is for boys ages 9 to 15 where "military training is part of the regular life."
