UPDATE: Detroit Boy Missing On Halloween Found Safe
DETROIT (WWJ) - The story of a young Detroit boy who went missing on Halloween has ended on a positive note.
Family, friends and Detroit police were searching frantically on Thursday for 9-year-old Tywon Young who left his home on Calvert Street, near Durfee Elementary-Middle School, on the city's west side, at around 4:30 p.m. on Halloween.
His mother told police her son said he was going to meet up with friends but he never returned home. Police checked the area around his home and talked with his friends, who said Tywon never showed up. His mother and some neighbors were kicking doors down of abandoned houses searching for the boy.
But, late Thursday morning, Tywon showed up at school.
So, where was he all night?
Talking to WWJ's Vickie Thomas, Tywon's mother, Tremaina Washington, said a neighbor on Cortland Street had let Tywon stay overnight with her 12-year-old son. Tyson neglected to tell his mother about his sleepover plans, and told the neighbor his mom said it would be OK.
Washington told reporters the neighbor panicked when she heard media reports that the boy was reported missing.
"If it was on the news this fast and all of a sudden, hearing it from all your guys and having all you guys helping, my brother and everybody in my neighborhood and everybody on Facebook, she (the neighbor) saw it, so ... she got scared and just dropped him off," said Washington. " ... How would you drop my son off and pass my house? You have to pass my house in order to get to school."
Police were talking to the neighbor later Thursday.
Tywon was not harmed.
