Detroit Border Patrol Thwarts Kidnapping In Progress
DETROIT (WWJ) - U.S. Border Patrol agents caught an armed kidnapping suspect on I-94 near Detroit, rescuing two women and perhaps saving their lives.
Authorities say the situation unfolded around 12:45 p.m. Monday when two Detroit Sector Headquarters Border Patrol agents were traveling westbound on I-94.
The agents were headed into Detroit when a concerned citizen flagged them down and relayed that she had just witnessed an armed kidnapping.
The witness provided the agents with a description of the vehicle, which was located moments later. Agents then conducted a traffic stop.
After the vehicle was stopped, authorities say the female driver explained to the agents that they were being held against their will and that the man in the passenger seat had used a weapon to abduct them.
Additional Border Patrol agents and Detroit police officers arrived on scene and assisted in removing the man from the vehicle and placing him under arrest.
The suspect, 30-year-old David Anderson, is now facing charges of kidnapping -- adult, kidnapping -- minor, and carrying a concealed weapon.
Authorities say both victims were physically unharmed, but declined to release further details on the case.
An investigation is ongoing.
