Detroit Bank Hit With Second Robbery Attempt In Less Than 24 Hours

DETROIT (WWJ) - A bank branch on Detroit's west side has been hit by thieves for the second time in less than 24 hours.

Police say crooks apparently just can't stay away from the Chase Bank on 7 Mile Road just west of Greenfield Road. Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, someone used a brick to smash through a window near a deposit box and force their way inside the building.

Once inside, police say the crook went for the vault but was unable to get any money. Moments later, an alarm sounded and the suspect fled the scene.

At this time, police haven't released a description of the suspect.

It's the same bank where about 12 hours earlier, a teen was caught during a robbery attempt. Police say the 16-year-old boy walked up to a teller and demanded money, saying he had an explosive device. The teller complied and handed over the cash but before the teen robber could exit the bank, he was trapped between a set of security doors. He was held there until police arrived and took him into custody without further incident. Charges are pending.
