Detroit Area Clergy Make Pilgrimage To The Vatican
DETROIT (WWJ) - In a special pilgrimage to the Vatican, Detroit Archbishop Allen Vigneron met with Pope Benedict the 16th. The visit marks a pilgrimage known as an "Ad limina". The term means "to the threshold" of the Apostles.
Bishops take the trip around the world every five or more years to give the Pope a report on the life of the Church in their diocese or archdiocese.
Archbishop Vigneron spoke live on WWJ about his visit and some of the questions the Pope asked him.
"He knows the situation in the United States, he knows that we are experiencing in Detroit, is what is going on in other parts of the industrial midwest and he encouraged us to keep moving forward," said Vigneron.
"And he asked me about vocations in the archdiocese in Detroit. He asked me how things were going and he was very interested in whether young men are entering the priesthood, young women ... being sisters, and when I spoke to him about the signs of renewal and vocation he was very, very encouraged and seemed very happy about that," said Vigneron.
Archbishop Vigneron was joined by Bishop Francis Reiss, Bishop Michael Byrnes, Bishop Arturo Cepeda and Bishop Donald Hanchon, all are from Detroit.
