'Detroit Airport Flyer' To Run Thanksgiving Weekend
DETROIT (WWJ) - "The Detroit Airport Flyer" is a new option for those traveling to and from Detroit Metro Airport this Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The Department of Transportation and the Detroit Bus company have launched a pilot shuttle to the airport that will run this Wednesday, Nov. 27, and Sunday, Dec. 1, from 4:50 a.m. to 11:15 p.m.
"These are luxury motor coaches that we own,"Detroit Bus Company owner Andy Didorosi told WWJ's Marie Osborne. "They have on board wi-fi, they have high-speed Internet, they've got on board bathrooms, a conductor to help you out with information or your luggage, so, this is actually a big shift from what people expect out of public transportation locally."
The cost is $12 per person.
"There's always been a need for a reliable quick way to the airport that is also low-cost," Didorosi said. "The current options right now are taxis, luxury cars, or having your friends or family drop you off at the airport.
Diorosi said that buses, running on a scheduled, will meet travelers at the airport's ground transportation center. To get to back to the airport, the bus will pick travelers up at either the Rosa Parks Transportation Center in Detroit or in Downtown Royal Oak.
Travelers are asked to buy tickets online in advance.
