ANN ARBOR (CBS DETROIT) - As an ESPN College GameDay analyst, former NFL receiver and Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard travels all over the country. Saturday's game, however, has brought Howard home.

Running the stairs of an empty Big House on Thursday, just like he used to do during his years at the University of Michigan, Howard recalled the workouts of former longtime Michigan strength and conditioning coach Mike Gittleson.

Being back in the stadium where he used to play, Howard gets chills. It is not just another College GameDay for him.

"It's a big difference coming here," Howard said. "It's like coming home because there's so much love and support here ... A lot of fond memories here. It's like where I go during the offseason to recharge my batteries."

Howard hopes the crowd for GameDay will be even more intense than the one between last week's between top 10 programs Clemson and Georgia.

"I hope the kids come out and support GameDay because that's why we're here," Howard said. "I've been very excited to see what type of turnout we get, and probably something maybe a little greater than what we experienced two years ago, which was phenomenal."

Fellow analyst Kirk Herbstreit said that Howard is one of Michigan's best ever and that the crew is happy to have him. He also has one request for Michigan fans: stop asking Howard to do the Heisman.

"The one thing that I would just tell fans right now, the whole, 'Pose! Pose! Do the pose!' It's just not going to happen. If you can get that message out, I'd really appreciate it, because he will not do it under any circumstances," Herbstreit said.
