Desmond Howard Gives Detroit Lions Season Prediction
DETROIT (WWJ) - With the Detroit Lions beginning their preseason Friday night with a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, many are wondering if the footballers are going to make a postseason appearance.
Sports Illustrated's Peter King recently tagged the Lions as a dark horse to reach the Super Bowl. Former Detroit Lion Desmond Howard, who won a Super Bowl ring with Green Bay, tells WWJ that King's prediction might be a bit much.
"To say they going to be a Super Bowl contender, who know. Obviously, they've been bit with the injury bug already, you know, you can never know," Howard said.
Even though he doesn't consider a Super Bowl appearance likely, Howard does see the Lions at least having a chance to crash the NFL's postseason party.
"The key to the Lions in my opinion is keeping Matthew Stafford healthy. If they can keep him healthy I think that they are playoff contenders. But, I don't know as far as the Super Bowl is concerned. Me personally, I wouldn't make that statement. But what do I know? I mean, Peter King's a genius."
Meantime, Howard, who won the Heisman at Michigan, says his alma mater could be making waves in the Big Ten this season, with a lot of optimism surrounding new coach Brady Hoke.
