Derek Meech, Kirk Maltby Unlikely To Make Wings Roster
The Red Wings plan to set their 23-man roster today, a day ahead of the NHL's 3 p.m. Wednesday deadline.The final decisions the Wings will make will be determining who to keep as an extra forward and defenseman.
Defenseman Derek Meech, returning from a mild concussion suffered in the first exhibition game, likely will be waived with Jakub Kindl earning the final defenseman's spot.Meech, however, has passed through waivers once and could be unclaimed this time. If so, he'll be sent to Grand Rapids.
As for the last forward spot Kirk Maltby is likely to be sent to Grand Rapids.
The Wings, however, must keep an eye on Todd Bertuzzi (back), Patrick Eaves (ankle) and Kris Draper (groin) before making a final decision on Maltby.
