Deputy's 3-Year-Old Son Accidentally Shoots Self To Death
LIBERTY TWP. (WWJ/AP) - A funeral will be held Wednesday for the 3-year-old son of a Jackson County Sheriff's Deputy who accidentally shot and killed himself.
Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Krumm said the shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. Saturday in the 7000 block of South Jackson Road in Liberty Township, about 10 miles south of Jackson.
Krumm said the boy's father, Deputy Mark Easter, was on his way to work when the call came in that his son, Michael, had shot himself.
Investigators are still waiting for reports from the state forensic lab in Lansing and the medical examiner's autopsy, but Krumm said they're currently handling the situation as an accidental shooting.
Krumm said the gun used was not Easter's service weapon. It wasn't immediately clear how the child was able to gain access to the gun.
Michael Easter's funeral will be held at 11:00 Wednesday at St. John Catholic Evangelist Church in Jackson. He is survived by his parents and two sisters.
