Deputies Catch Shotgun-Toting Ex-Con Fleeing Girlfriend's House After Alleged Assault [VIDEO]
PONTIAC (WWJ) - Authorities say a 27-year-old man accused of assaulting his girlfriend was taken into custody following a police chase along I-75 after deputies ran into him while responding to the crime scene.
Police say the incident unfolded around 3 p.m. last Thursday, when they received a 911 call about a domestic assault in progress at a home in the 1300 block of Gambrell Drive, in a neighborhood near Walton Boulevard and Giddings Road in Pontiac.
The 29-year-old victim told police that her boyfriend, Lartis Mosley, had strangled her and pointed a shotgun in her face. When she mentioned that she had called 911, Mosley grabbed the loaded shotgun, "told her that he was not going to go back to prison," and left the home, according to police.
While responding to the address, deputies located Mosley travelling on Joslyn Road near Walton Boulevard. At that point, police say Mosley accelerated and fled from deputies southbound on I-75 from Joslyn Road.
Deputies chased after his vehicle, which eventually exited the freeway onto westbound Square Lake Road. Mosley kept driving northbound onto Woodward Avenue and turned onto Jessie Street, with deputies right on his tail. As Mosley approached Pike Street, deputies seized the opportunity and performed a PIT Maneuver, or precision immobilization technique -- disabling his vehicle. Mosley was taken into custody without further incident. Deputies recovered the shotgun, which was wrapped in a jacket inside the vehicle.
On Friday, Mosley was arraigned in 50th District Court on charges of third-degree fleeing and eluding police, possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, and domestic violence.
Mosley is currently being held at the Oakland County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond. He's due back in court for a pre-exam conference on October 6.
According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, Mosley was released from prison in 2014 after serving eight years for armed robbery and home invasion convictions.
