Deputies Capture One Of Oakland County's Most Wanted Fugitives
ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - One of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office 10 most wanted criminals has been captured.
After receiving a tip on July 30, the U.S. Marshall's Office and detectives from the Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Team located and arrested Nino Denzel-Wesley Red at the Lafayette Towers apartment complex on Orleans Street in Detroit.
On Wednesday, Red was arraigned in the 45th District Court on one count of armed robbery. He was given a $50,000 cash surety bond and is due back in court on Aug. 6 for a pre-exam conference.
Investigators say Red has been on the run since Jan. 16, when he assaulted and robbed a 16-year-old girl in the parking lot of the Kroger store located at 8 Mile and Wyoming roads in Royal Oak Township.
According to police, the girl left the store around 7:48 p.m. and was seated in the driver position of her vehicle when Red attacked and robbed her. Police say Red tried to assault the victim with a can of mace, but dropped the chemical weapon when the victim fought back.
Police say Red then punched the victim in the head, robbed her of her cellular telephone and fled on foot southbound into Detroit. The victim received minor injuries during the attack.
Investigators say Red is also a suspect in another armed robbery that occurred on Jan. 26 at an Aldi Supermarket where a handgun was used. On this occasion, police say Red had an accomplice with him.
