Dense Fog Advisory Monday Throughout Metro Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - A dense fog advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. for areas throughout Southeast Michigan, which the National Weather Service says means visibility will frequently be reduced to less than one quarter of a mile.
But in many areas of metro Detroit early Monday, drivers were confronted with little -- if any -- visibility on the roads.
At Detroit Metropolitan Airport, for example, visibility was approximately one-sixteenth of a mile. That's roughly the length of a football field.
While heading to Novi, WWJ's Ron Dewey said his commute was a mixed bag. On westbound I-696 -- before hitting Orchard Lake Road -- Dewey experienced no problems at all. He said drivers were going anywhere from 55 to maybe 65 mph. But after that, the situation changed and visibility was down to zero as he approached the I-275 / I-96 interchange.
The best advice: use a little extra common sense on the road and give yourself extra time to get from Point A to Point B.
