Denard Robinson Winning The Heisman?
By: Dennis Fithian
If the Heisman Trophy winner is a popularity contest then get ready for a legit run by Mr. Popular Michigan senior quarterback Denard Robinson. This years Wolverine schedule stacks up as one of the most visible slates in college football. The last few years (legit) charges of a 'September Heisman' for Denard won't apply this year with Michigan taking on pre season number three Alabama to start season. A night game in South Bend and a season ender at the Horseshoe should maximize exposure to Robison's campaign as well. It's going to be difficult for UM to repeat or better on last years 11-2 season with road games against Alabama, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Ohio State. Good news on the record front is that last years Heisman winner Robert Griffin III's Baylor team ended up with three losses. Bad news for Robinson is examining Griffin III's numbers from last year. RGIII ended up with a 37/6 TD to Int ratio. Robinson last year was 20/15 TD to Int. UM needs to end up with three or fewer losses and Robinson needs to cut his last years interception rate in half. Robinson, with his and his teams visibility, is an easy pick to get invited to the Downtown Athletic Club at the end of the year. Cut that pick rate in half and he could be the fourth Wolverine to win the Heisman.
