Denard Robinson The WR
By: Terry Foster
ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper says University of Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson will be the fifth ranked senior wide receiver in the 2013 NFL draft.
That's interesting. Denard Robinson does not play wide receiver. He plays quarterback. He has stood in the slot in certain situations but usually is a decoy or runs a reverse.
How does Kiper know Robinson can play wide receiver? How does he know he can battle with a corner back and break free to catch passes? Maybe he is like New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez and would flinch when a defensive back makes a move at him. Robinson told me a few weeks ago he plans on playing quarterback in the NFL.
He won't get that wish unless he signs with a team that will run some wild cat packages. He is more athlete than quarterback. I do believe he has too much talent not to play in the NFL. I will admit I do not know what his role will be. My guess is he will play some running back, some quarterback, and some wide receiver and maybe return a punt or two.
If you want to list Robinson as an athlete that is fine with me. He is a rare football player where you cannot label him. Robinson is not a running back, quarterback or wide receiver. He is a football player who will be able to do a lot of things.
