Defunct Novi Expo Center To Be Demolished
DETROIT (WWJ) - Workers will begin demolition on the Novi Expo Center at 11:30 a.m. on June 11.
Expo center owner Kevin Adell said the vacant building located at I-696 and Novi Road will be leveled within the next several weeks.
"This property has been the home to numerous important uses beginning with my dad's entrepreneurial start," Adell said. "In addition to being an Oakland County hub, I recall the days when the late Jimmy Hoffa, a close friend of my dad's, would come visit. While the Novi Expo Center will be coming down, the 200,000-gallon Water Tower will continue to stand tall."
The 300,000 square foot building was built in 1966 and was home to Adell Industries, where original owner Frank Adell invented automotive door guards, a product that is still used by The Big 3. It has been completely vacant for the past seven years.
Novi Mayor Bob Gatt said the demolition is an integral part of improving economic conditions in Novi.
"The redevelopment of the intersection of Novi Road and I-96 is an important piece of Novi's Economic puzzle," he said.
An announcement about future plans for the location is expected later this year.
