Debate Continues On Gov. Snyder Business Tax Cut
LANSING (WWJ) - The Snyder administration is stepping up efforts to push for a major business tax cut, along with budget cuts and other reforms.
The Governor believes that if you cut the business tax, it will create jobs.
However, WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick said critics are lining up and asking whether the moves would actually bring jobs to the state.
Mark Gaffney, president of Michigan State AFL-CIO, said this method has been tried before and there is no proof that it is going to work.
"We've been trying this theory of Ronald Reagan since the 1980s. John Engler cut taxes. Jennifer Granholm cut taxes. Corporate taxes in Michigan are the lowest they've been in many, many years," Gaffney said. "Tax cuts alone do not spur business and jobs."
The Governor has yet to estimate the number of jobs he would create with his business tax cut.
