Dearborn Divine Child Mourns Students
The tragic loss of a senior and a recent graduate at Dearborn Divine Child has sent shock waves through the school and the church.
The students and staff of this tightly-knit school are depending on each other as they come to terms with the tragedy that took two of their classmates, senior Wayne Doran and a recent graduate, Paul DiMarco Junior, helping another student take photographs when they were killed in Sunday's crash on I-94 near Metro Airport.
WWJ's Ron Dewey spoke with Father Jim, who knew both students.
"Wayne was part of the yearbook, he was on varsity golf and part of the Dearborn City beautification Commission. He was a good student, and comes from a wonderful family. He is an only child, so this is difficult for them as well," he said. "Paul DiMarco was a 2006 graduate and he was musically and artistically inclined."
Grief counselors from Divine Child other school districts were on hand for students arriving for class, following Sunday's tragedy.
High school principal Peggy Knust said both families were involved in their church, the schools and the community.
"Wayne had been dealing with adversity, because he had some heart problems and even having surgery before school," she said noting the parents were supportive of not only their son and his academics but also the school. DiMarco's mother worked at the school," she said.
A prayer vigil Sunday night at the church brought together 600 students and parishioners.
