Dearborn Arab International Festival Brings Weekend Fun

DEARBORN (WWJ) - The 2011 Dearborn Arab International Festival, scheduled for Father's Day weekend, brings all the excitement and fun the festival has delivered over the past 16 years.

For three days, beginning June 17, the festival converts 12 blocks of Warren Avenue into a cultural celebration, rich with diversity, food, arts and entertainment. Admission is free.

Bring the whole family to enjoy food with international flavor from the Middle East and beyond, live music and performances, carnival rides, midway games, henna designs, crafts and jewelry.

The festival takes place Friday: 5 to 10 pm, Saturday: 11 am to 10 pm, and Sunday: 11 am to 8 pm, on Warren Avenue between Schaefer Road and Wyoming Street in Dearborn.

One of the most popular events at the festival is the Children's Tent, featuring face painting, puppeteers, clowns and live entertainment.

This year, the Sarisan Slovak Ensemble dance group of Sterling Heights will return to the festival on Saturday to add to its blend of international flavor.

Other highlights include the Ardán Academy of Irish Dance, Magician Tom Plunkard, Troupe Ta'Amullat Middle Eastern Dance, Magician Jeff Wawrzaszek, Habibi Middle Eastern Dance and Illusionist Baffling Bill.
