Deadly Shooting In Garden City
Garden City and Michigan State Police are investigating a deadly shooting.
The shooting happened in the middle of the night along Marquette Avenue, just to the west of Merriman and right across the street from an elementary school.
Police responded to what appeared, at first, to be a home invasion, but Police Chief Bob Muery tells WWJ Newsradio 950 it was anything but.
"Officers responded to a report of an intruder, an unwelcome guest, at about 12:45 this morning. When they arrived, they investigated and they encountered a 29-year-old Detroit resident who was armed with a Mac-10 semi-automatic weapon," Muery told WWJ's Ron Dewey. "The man was not compliant with the officers' directions to put the weapon down. He brandished it and at the point that he aimed it in the direction of the officers, they fired."
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Muery characterized it as a domestic situation.
Michigan State Police crime lab investigators are on the scene, checking things out, which is standard operating procedure any time police are involved in a deadly shooting.
