DDOT Driver Among Eight Hurt In Bus Crash
DETROIT (WWJ) - Eight people were injured in a crash involving a Detroit Department of Transportation bus outside a school.
Police rushed to the scene, Tuesday afternoon, at Warren and 14th Street -- near the George Crockett Academy on the city's west side.
Detroit Police Investigator Jim Hillock says a speeding car caused the crash.
"The bus had the green light, he was coming through the intersection when the Taurus ran the red and hit him and actually pushed him off the road a little bit," said Hillock.
The bus slammed into an iron gate that surrounds the George Crockett Academy, stopping just feet away from the building.
Hillock says the driver of the vehicle was seriously injured. The bus driver and six passengers were also hurt, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
The car was heavily damaged. The intersection was closed for some time.
