Dangerous Felon Cuts Tether, Escapes
DETROIT (WWJ) - A dangerous criminal from the Detroit area is on the run after cutting off his tether.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's office told WWJ Newsradio 950 Demetrous Magwood, who was recently convicted of attempted murder and assault in a shooting, is missing.
Upon conviction in May, the court continued Magwood's $200,000 cash bond, on the condition that he wear a tether monitored by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department.
Magwood's tether was cut off, shortly after his conviction, and found in the area of Southfield and Grand River in Detroit. A warrant was then issued for his arrest.
"We objected to his being released because this is certainly not an offense where the defendant should have been placed on a tether," said Wayne County Prosecutor Worthy.
The FBI is now involved in the search for Magwood. According to witnesses, he may be hiding out with friends or family in Alabama.
