Dan Dickerson's Game Recap 4-13-11
Brandon Inge's first home run of the year was a big one: a solo shot off of Darren Oliver in the bottom of the ninth delivered a 3-2 win for the Tigers over the Texas Rangers. It was the second straight walk-off win for the Tigers over the Rangers - Miguel Cabrera delivered a 5-4 win with a single in the bottom of the ninth yesterday.
There were a lot of base runners throughout the first five innings -but no score. Then the Rangers scored on singles from Nelson Cruz and David Murphy off Max Scherzer, and they took a 2-0 lead to the bottom of the 6th. But the Tigers came right back. Back-to-back doubles from Victor Martinez and Brennan Boesch made it 2-1, then Inge hit a shallow fly ball to left that scored Boesch to make it 2-2. Scherzer started for the Tigers - went six innings, gave up 2 earned runs on 6 hits, with two walks and seven strikeouts. Brayan Villarreal pitched two scoreless innings, and Valverde worked the ninth to get his second win.
The win improves the Tigers to 5-7. They now head to the West Coast for seven games with Oakland and Seattle. A four games series with the A's starts tomorrow night - Phil Coke vs. Gio Gonzalez in game one.
