Dan Dickerson Recaps The Tigers 10-3 Win Over The Orioles

The Detroit Tigers offense had been quiet for much of this week. But that changed dramatically on Saturday: the Tigers hit five home runs, four in an eight run outburst in the fourth inning, and the Tigers went on to beat the Baltimore Orioles, 10-3.
Victor Martinez led off the fourth with a deep drive down the right field line for his third home run of the year. Jhonny Peralta followed with a home run down the left field line. And then Alex Avila made it back-to-back-to-back home runs with a home run deep to left centerfield to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead. Four batters later, Miguel Cabrera stepped to the plate. Facing lefty reliever T.J. McFarland, Cabrera fell behind 0-2, got the count to 3-2, then launched a Grand Slam to left, and the Tigers led 9-1.
The inning was full of firsts, and notable events: it was the first time the Tigers had hit three consecutive home runs since 2001, and the first time they had hit four home runs in an inning since September of 1986. Cabrera's Grand Slam was his fourth, and gave him 200 in his Tigers career, ninth-most in franchise history. Cabrera now has 17 home runs, and 65 RBIs in just 54 games.
Justin Verlander enjoyed the power show - he pitched seven solid innings for his seventh win. The loss snapped a four game losing streak for the Tigers - matching a season high - and puts them in position to take the series from the Orioles with a win on Sunday afternoon.
