Flyers GM Says Dan Cleary Deal Is Not Done

After eight seasons in Detroit, Dan Cleary is out the door ... maybe.
The 15-year NHL veteran has reportedly signed a three-year, $7.75 million deal with the Philadelphia Flyers, but Philadelphia Inquirer beat writer Sam Carchidi has tweeted that Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren is noncommittal about the deal.
Homer confirms that Cleary will be here on tryout contract. "But there are no promises" on a deal, he insisted. #flyers

Cleary had nine goals and six assists for the Red Wings last season, when the team made a late playoff push, winning their first-round series in seven games and pushing their second-round series to seven also before being eliminated.
Because the Flyers are over the NHL salary cap, they were not expected to officially sign 34-year-old Cleary until the end of the month, at which time they will make other moves to free up enough cap space to bring him on board. The deal apparently includes a no-trade clause.
