Dad Facing Abuse Charges After Kids Get Sick From Suspected Marijuana-Laced Candy
TRAVERSE CITY (WWJ/AP) - A northern Michigan man is facing child abuse and other charges after police say his 7-year-old son and a 9-year-old girl ate gummy candy believed to contain marijuana at his home.
Michael Taylor, 24, was arrested Friday and charged with fourth-degree child abuse, lying to a peace officer and marijuana possession.
Police say the children became ill after playing together at Taylor's Traverse City home earlier in the day. Both children were lethargic, vomiting and experiencing hallucinations, police said. The kids later tested positive at hospitals for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.
Police say the children told them they ate gummy candy before getting sick, according to reports. However, police did not find any gummy candy when they searched Taylor's home.
Defense attorney James Hunt told The Associated Press that he was reviewing the police report and had no comment.
Taylor was arraigned Friday and released on bond.
