Dabish Gets Life Sentence For Girlfriend's Murder
The son of a co-founder of the Powerhouse Gym chain has been sentence to life in prison for the murder and torture of Diana DeMayo in a downtown Detroit apartment earlier this year.
A jury found 24-year-old Peter Dabish guilty of Felony First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder and Torture in the death of 24-year-old Diana DeMayo.
Wayne County Circuit Judge Linda Parker sentenced Peter Dabish on Thursday to life behind bars without the chance of parole. Parker rejected a request from defense attorney Domnick Sorise to set aside the jury's torture conviction.
Before sentencing, DeMayo's father Edward DeMayo fought back tears as he spoke to the court.
"If I could get through my sadness, just for a moment, I look to my son who was devastated by the loss of his only sibling, who was also his dearest friend. Never to have an aunt for his children; or to be an uncle to hers. And my heart is broken all over again," DeMayo said.
"My Diana was a special girl, who touched many lives when she was here. And one cruel act has crushed the cumulative hearts of many," he said.
Police say Dabish was covered in blood when he called them to his Fort Shelby apartment in downtown Detroit earlier this year. Investigators say DeMayo had suffered at least ten blunt force blows.
Dabish's late father co-founded Powerhouse in 1975.
