D-Town Honors 'The Worm' & Makes A New Fan!

It is official: I am a Piston fan!  I went to my first game at The Palace on Friday.

My "date" was my friend Rommi.

It was the night the Chicago Bulls were in town and Dennis Rodman accepted an honor from the Motor City.  Rodman's #10 jersey is now retired, hung up on the ceiling with many other great basketball stars.

It was great to be a part of a historic moment with Dennis Rodman returning home and retiring his number.  What was more interesting?  When he had to do his "thank you's" and started to tear up when addressing Isiah Thomas.  Another interesting fact: who knew Dennis Rodman has a wife and kids? Am I the only person that didn't know this?  Am I the only one who was surprised to find out he is almost 50 years old!?  Am I the only one who adored his "bedazzled" blazer?  By the way -- there is a New Jersey connection.  Rodman was born in Trenton (I promise to soon stop with the New Jersey references!)

Before and after the ceremony, I had a blast watching the game AND people-watching!  I love that those who show support for the home team do not just wear Pistons gear.  I saw folks wearing Red Wings, Tigers and Lions shirts!  Showing Detroit pride is a unified effort in sports!

The Piston's Spare Tires had Rommi and I laughing so hard we couldn't breathe!  They were by far one of the most entertaining aspects of the evening!

But the real stars of the show were the FANS! Even when the Pistons were trailing behind the Chicago Bulls, during the time-outs people were still smiling, dancing and cheering!  The energy from the crowd was enormous and infectious!

It was a close game.  In the last few minutes of the game, Rommi and I were crossing our fingers that the Pistons could take it all.  But, alas, that was not the case.  Regardless it was a fun night!

I have posted more pictures up on www.facebook.com/symanews

Also – I have to give a shout-out to David Suzor (http://twitter.com/LtDPS).  He follows me on Twitter and saw that I was going to the game!  He happened to run into me and introduce himself!  Nice meeting you David!
