Cruisers Beware: Weekend's Hot Temps Increase Risk Of Overheated Cars
FERNDALE (WWJ) -- Dealing with an overheated car in the middle of a packed Woodward Avenue is one of the biggest fear of cruisers this weekend.
John Latner with AC Delco recommends drivers go through a simple checklist ahead of the Woodward Dream Cruise, including the car's fluids and its water pump.
"It can be frustrating when it does happen, but most of us are kind of mechanically inclined and do-it-youselfers and love a good challenge," Latner said. "Unfortunately, you don't like a good challenge on the side of the Woodward Dream Cruise, but most car guys don't mind performing maintenance or tinkering with their vehicles.
Latner said most people think battery problems are what cause breakdowns, but it can be many other things.
"Summer temperatures will affect oil, transmission, power steering, brake fluid and especially coolant," Latner said. "It's always important to check all of those fluid levels and also to check your water pump to make sure it doesn't have any signs of leakage or making any moaning or groaning noises."
If all else fails, Later said AC Delco will have support vehicles driving up and down the Avenue to help those cars in need.
