Crime Stoppers Holds Workshops To Help Families Dealing With Grief
DETROIT (WWJ) - An ongoing workshop to help families dealing with grief after the murder of a loved one taking place in Detroit.
Crime Stoppers of Michigan has partnered with St. Johns Open Arms program to hold monthly workshops. The family workshop group will give families a place where they can share their pain with other families of murder victims while exploring options to reduce violence in our communities. The St. Johns Open Arms program will provide the grief support for families.
At the workshops there will be thoughts about how the murder of a loved one might have been prevented, as well as ideas of what can be done to stop murders in the future. The group will also work on ways to help get information from the community to get their family members case solved.
"The first workshop made me realize that I am not alone," stated Anthony Paul Craig, father of murder victim Anthony Paul Craig Jr. "By listening to other families who have shared my pain made me become a stronger person in coping with my son's death." "I am going to attend every meeting in hopes that this might help prevent other families from suffering the same loss that I have."
At the heart of Crime Stoppers operation is a completely anonymous tip hotline (1800SpeakUp). Anyone with information about a crime can access it by phone, or web tips at www.1800SPEAKUP.org, or text CSM @274637.
If information to Crime Stoppers leads to an arrest. A cash reward of up to $2,500 is paid for an unsolved homicide. A cash reward of up to $1,000 is paid for all other felony crimes. In 2012, 6682 tips were given to law enforcement.
