Crime In Detroit Down in 2010
Doing more with less appears to be working for Detroit's Police Department as Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davie reports officials say crime was down in 2010 despite having fewer officers on the street.
Police Chief Ralph Godbee says overall crime was down by six and a half percent in 2010 as compared to 2009 in Detroit and that includes occurrences of homicide, assault and rape.
Police Chief Godbee credits the drop in crime to police and community partnerships, a better use of resources and good police work.
Godbee understands that the release of these crime figures will not replace the pain family members feel with the loss of a loved one.
"However many people are victims of violent crime we are excited about the progress we are making, but we are also sober to (the fact) that there are families still dealing with the pain of the loss of their loved ones." Chief Godbee stressed.
