Crime Alert Issued Near U of M Campus
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WWJ) - A warning Monday morning from Ann Arbor Police for students and others near the University of Michigan campus.
Two people telling police Sunday night that they were robbed at knifepoint by two men at Hill and Olivia streets; that's near the southeastern corner of the campus. Only one person handed over his wallet. The two suspects then ran off.
Ann Arbor police are asking people who may have information to dial 911, contact the University of Michigan Department of Public Safety at (734) 763-1131 or the Ann Arbor Police Department Tip Line at (734) 794-6939. Information may also be e-mailed to tips@a2gov.org. The department's confidential TIP line is 1-800-863-1355.
Police officials also issued the following reminders to local residents:
•If you see a suspect, do not approach--call police.
•Always keep your doors locked, even while at home.
•Look assertive and be aware of your surroundings.
•Be aware that your risk increases in secluded and isolated areas.
•Walk with a trusted friend or co-worker when possible.
•Trust your intuition. If a particular situation makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, choose an alternative.
•Have your keys in hand before you reach your vehicle or residence.
•If you feel threatened on campus, look for a blue light emergency phone or call 9-1-1 from any phone (no coins need for 9-1-1 calls).
