Crew Demolishes Eminem's Childhood Home In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Eminem's childhood home in Detroit has been demolished.
MLive.com reported a crew on Wednesday took down the small house — on Dresden Street south of 8 Mile Road — after a fire earlier this month damaged portions of the top floor.
The weed-choked, boarded-up bungalow is pictured on the cover of the rapper's recently released "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" — it's sad state a stark contrast to how the home appeared, with Eminem on the porch, on his 2000 album "The Marshall Mathers LP."
A fire earlier this month damaged portions of the small home's top floor.
The Michigan Land Bank says in a statement that the home was "structurally unsafe" after the fire.
Public records show the home was listed as the address of Eminem's mother, Deborah Mathers, starting in the 1980s. The property has had several owners since Eminem lived there and has been in foreclosure at least twice in past decade.
After the house failed to sell for a mere $500 at a Wayne County Treasurer's Office auction, it was turned over to the Michigan Land Bank, a state agency.
Workers are expected to finish removing debris from the lot by the end of the month.
