Court To Hear Appeal In Sex-Offender Case
The Michigan Supreme Court will consider an appeal by a western Michigan man who was ordered to register as a sex offender more than a year after he was sentenced to probation for misdemeanor child abuse.
Kent Lee believes registration is an excessive punishment. He pleaded no contest to third-degree child abuse for flicking a boy's penis after the child refused to put on pajamas.
Lee was placed on probation for five years and ordered to jail for 10 weekends. In June, the Michigan appeals court upheld a decision by an Allegan County judge who ordered Lee to register as a sex offender.
The state Supreme Court this week invited groups representing prosecutors and defense attorneys to file arguments in the case.
