Court Of Appeals Upholds Jailing Of Bridge Owner For Contempt
DETROIT (WWJ) - The Michigan Court of Appeals says a Wayne County judge was acting properly when he threw the owner and president of the Ambassador Bridge Company in jail last month.
Judge Prentis Edwards jailed the two for violating a court order involving the Gateway Project near the Ambassador Bridge.
The Michigan Court of Appeals ruled Monday that Edwards should set out in detail what actions Manuel "Matty" Moroun needs to take to purge the contempt ruling.
M-DOT spokesman Jeff Cranson tells WWJ that all they're after is enforcement of what was agreed to in 2004.
Moroun, who owns the bridge, and company president Dan Stamper were jailed earlier this year for contempt of court. The judge said Moroun and Stamper hadn't performed court-order improvements in the area.
Both remain free pending another hearing Thursday.
