Could Snyder Take A Hit If Romney Fails?
DETROIT (WWJ) - With the Michigan presidential primary just around the corner, current front runners Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney are making their rounds across the state.
It's a tight race, and Romney loses Michigan, some wonder if, Governor Rick Snyder, who's endorsing the Detroit native, could sustain some damage himself.
And with Governor Rick Snyder endorsing the Michigan-native Romney, some wonder if a loss at the polls could be damaging.
Chairmen of the Michigan Black Chamber of Commerce Charlie Beckham believes that if Snyder can't deliver a victory, there could be political consequences for both sides.
"If they go down, they go down together on that one," Beckham said. "It could ruin them politically no question."
Originally, Snyder wasn't planning on endorsing either of the candidates, according to Beckham. But he believes that the governor eventually gave in to mounting demands to choose sides. "I think he got pressured into that," Beckham said.
He added, "If he had to pick between Santorum and Romney, he really had no choice but to go with Romney."
A recent report from Nate Silver of the New York Time currently projects that Santorum has an 80 percent chance of winning Michigan. If these projections hold true, Romney's campaign could be staring at an uncertain future.
"If Romney can't pull off winning in his home state, that could spell some real trouble for his campaign," Beckham said.
The Michigan Primary is scheduled to take place February 28.
