Could A 'Lightsaber' Hold Clue To Detroit Murder?

DETROIT (WWJ) - In the absence of new leads, Detroit police hope some photos taken from newly discovered surveillance footage will help solve two recent shootings.

With the trail going dry in both cases over the last two weeks investigators are hoping that pictures of possible persons of interest will help them connect the dots reports WWJ's Kathryn Larson.

"A lot of times investigators use due diligence to see what they can ... find out before we come to the public and there are good times, many times when we do make an arrest but there are times when we really need the citizens help," said Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens.

Sgt. Stephens said in the first photo they need help recognizing a handful of individuals who are near the Renaissance Center.

Stephens notes that one person stands out because they were carrying a lightsaber. "I think the festival had ended and they were selling those lightsabers and light necklaces that individuals will generally purchase during the festivals in the downtown area on the weekend."

She says they may be linked to a well publicized incident involving a 59-year-old Good Samaritan shot after stopping to help some robbery victims 10 days ago.

Sgt. Stephens says in another picture a person of interest is wanted in connection to a reverse drive-by shooting where the 52-year-old victim was shot and killed in his car on Wyoming.

If you have any information about these incidents please call Crimestoppers at (800) SPEAK-UP.
