Cops: Man With AIDS Virus May Have Exposed Others
GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ/AP) - A Grand Rapids-area man has been charged with failing to inform a sex partner that he has the AIDS virus.
Grand Rapids police say David Smith was charged last week, three days after he voluntarily told detectives that he had been having unprotected sex. He said there were many partners, but he only knew a few names.
Investigators said 51-year-old Smith, who is currently being held in the Kent County jail, suggested he was intentionally trying to spread the virus.
The Kent County Health Department is urging people who had sex with Smith to contact the agency at 616-632-7171 for a HIV test.
