Cops: Man Avoids Robbery, Jumps From Moving Car
PONTIAC (WWJ) - Police in Pontiac are looking for two men who allegedly tried to rob a man at gunpoint after taking him to a party store to cash his Social Security check.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened around 12:18 p.m. on Thursday outside of a business in the 1100 block of Joslyn.
The 46-year-old victim told police that he was driven to the party store by the two suspects, one who only knows by the street name of "Baby Rail." The man told police that he cashed his check, and bought some beer and cigarettes before leaving the store and returning to the suspect's car.
Once the man got back into the vehicle, described as a blue/green Saturn, one of the suspects produced a semi-automatic handgun and tried to rob him, police said.
The man said he resisted and fought with one of the suspects. He told police he was pistol whipped, but managed to jump out of the rear window of the moving vehicle.
Police said the suspects just kept on driving after the man jumped from the vehicle, adding that the robbery attempt was unsuccessful.
The victim, who was not identified, was transported to McLaren Hospital where he was treated for injuries, including a broken clavicle.
The first suspect, who goes by the street name "Baby Rail," is described as a black male in his 20s with a thin build. The second suspect was described only as a black male in his 20s with a stocky build.
Police have released images of the suspects and their vehicle that were captured on the store's security camera.
