Cops Across 4 Counties Work Random Shootings Case
LANSING (WWJ) - More than 80 members of law enforcement are now working on the case of the I-96 shooter, following over 20 reports of cars being fired at across four counties.
Most of the shootings took place near the freeway; apparently at random. So far, no one has been hurt.
Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth said he met with various police agencies Wednesday morning to discuss the investigation.
"We're not holding back anything," Wriggelsworth old WWJ Newsradio 950. "We're, we're turning every leaf that's possible and ensure the public that we've got every resource available bearing down on this. That includes polygraph operators, forensic artists ... everything that is in our quiver of arrows we're going to use."
The crime scene stretches for nearly one hundred miles. Wriggelsworth said the case is starting to affect their regular patrols. "Our daily operation's suffering now because we've got so many people assigned to this, but ... this is important enough, in a public safety sense, that this is just what we need to do," he said.
Tipsters tell police the gunman appears to be a white man in his 30s, although at least one alleged victim gave a different description.
