Copper Thieves Target Vacant School In Pontiac
PONTIAC (WWJ) - Oakland County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a break-in at a vacant school in Pontiac.
School officials say someone forced their way into the Bethune School, located in the 100 block of Lake Street, over the weekend and swiped thousands of dollars' worth of copper, fixtures and wiring.
The school is currently vacant in the midst of renovations and was without power at the time of the break in. The alarm was operating on a battery backup, but police say they received no reports of the alarm being activated from the alarm company.
Investigators processed the scene and collected evidence, as well as partial fingerprints.
Police are searching for suspects as their investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oakland County Sheriff's Office at 248-858-4911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
