Cooler Weather In Store For Weekend
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - "If only the weekend could have been as nice as the last several days were - but things will be taking a turn here," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean Devore.
Cooler temperatures are in the forecast for Michigan this weekend following a record-setting stretch of warm weather across the state.
The National Weather Service says highs are expected in the 70s or 60s in parts of the state Friday through Sunday following temperatures this week that topped 80 degrees.
In the Detroit area there were nine straight days of 70-degree or higher weather through Thursday, matching the previous record from April 16-24 in 1886.
All-time highs for March were set this week in Detroit, Flint, Saginaw and other communities. Thursday was the hottest day ever record in March in Michigan, with a high of 85 degrees.
On Friday, AccuWeather is calling for a high near 73, which is the record temperature for the day in Metro Detroit. Rain is expected Friday with thunderstorms possible in the afternoon into the night. More showers and a possible thunderstorm is in the forecast for Saturday.
There are concerns that the early stretch of warm weather could bring problems for the state's farmers, since hard freezes in April might hurt plants that got a start growing. In West Michigan, frost is possible Sunday night and Monday night.
